In a development that has been nearly a year in the making, House Republicans are initiating their inaugural hearing for an impeachment inquiry concerning President Biden. This move fulfills

their promise made after taking control of the House of Representatives last November.

The focus of the inquiry has largely centered around President Biden's son, Hunter Biden, as Republicans attempt to establish a case that the President benefited from his son's business endeavors.

The hearing, scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. ET, is under the purview of House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer. According to Comer, the hearing aims to "examine the value of an impeachment inquiry and present evidence House Republicans have uncovered to date regarding President Joe Biden's knowledge of and role in his family's domestic and international business practices."

Four witnesses will testify during the hearing, with three of them selected by Republicans to address potential "crimes the Bidens may have committed," as stated by Rep. Comer of Kentucky.

Based on the evidence gathered, there is a call for Congress to initiate an impeachment inquiry into President Biden's alleged corruption. The claim is that Americans demand and deserve answers, transparency, and accountability concerning this alleged abuse of public office, according to Comer.

However, it is worth noting that there is a limited amount of concrete evidence for an impeachable offense by President Biden. While thousands of pages of financial records and other information have been uncovered by the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees, there is no clear "smoking gun" related to the allegations against the Biden family.

The primary allegation from House Republicans centers on the assertion that, during his tenure as vice president, Biden directly benefited from his son Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine and China. Yet, no indisputable evidence has been presented by Republicans to support their claims.

The impeachment inquiry against President Biden stands out from previous cases in American history due to the absence of credible evidence of wrongdoing by the President, which typically forms the basis for such proceedings. This situation has led some to characterize the process as a "fishing expedition." Photo by Gage Skidmore from Peoria, AZ, United States of America, Wikimedia commons.
