Two men were sentenced by the U.S. Justice Department on Friday for conspiring to attack electric substations in the United States with powerful rifles, as part of a

plot driven by white supremacy, with the intention of sowing civil unrest and economic distress.

Christopher Cook, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, received a sentence of 92 months in prison, while Jonathan Frost, 25, of Katy, Texas, and West Lafayette, Indiana, was sentenced to 60 months.

According to the DOJ, the two men pleaded guilty in February 2022 to one count of conspiring to provide material support to extremists. The plot never materialized, and the men were never able to carry out any attacks. The third individual charged in the plot, Jackson Sawall of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, also pleaded guilty in February 2022 and will be sentenced later. Prosecutors said that Frost and Cook hatched their plan in an online chat group in the fall of 2019 and attempted to recruit others, including juveniles in Texas, to their cause.
