In a modern echo of ancient history, a Jewish man has married into the Persian royal family—2,500 years after the story of Purim.

Bradley Sherman, a Jewish-American tech CEO from Arizona, has tied the knot with Princess Iman Pahlavi, daughter of Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. The couple officially registered their marriage in New York before holding a celebration in Paris last weekend.

Princess Iman, 31, was born and raised in the United States following the exile of her family after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which brought an end to the Pahlavi dynasty. The revolution forced the royal family, including her grandmother, Queen Farah—widow of the last Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi—into exile.

Sherman and Princess Iman reportedly met through mutual friends, and their engagement was made public in 2023.

While the Paris celebration wasn’t a religious ceremony and there's no indication the princess plans to convert to Judaism, the Jewish tradition of the ‘chair dance’ was said to be part of the festivities. Photo by farahpahlavi.org.
