According to aides and advisers, U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to officially announce his 2024 presidential plans in May or later, instead of after the State of the

Union address in February or March as originally thought.

This delay has caused concern among supporters who are unsure if the 80-year-old Democrat president, one of the oldest world leaders, would or should commit to another four-year term.

Biden has laid out the probable themes of a re-election bid in political speeches, secured a doctor's note that he is "fit for duty," and picked Chicago as the city where he would formally become the nominee next year.

He has yet to face a serious challenge for his party's nomination, but his campaign team and fundraising plans still need to be decided. Biden is currently promoting likely campaign themes, such as infrastructure, childcare, and environmental justice, during his "Investing in America" tour.

Once he officially announces his candidacy, Biden will be asked to respond daily to hot-button issues and the latest observations from top Republican candidate Donald Trump. Biden's campaign will also be under new ethics and spending scrutiny as incumbent presidents need to reimburse the U.S. government for travel and other expenses related to their campaign.
