Rudy Giuliani, a staunch ally of former President Trump, has filed for bankruptcy following a significant legal blow. This move comes shortly after a jury mandated Giuliani to pay over $148
million in damages to two former Georgia election workers he falsely accused of manipulating the 2020 election.
The bankruptcy petition was lodged by Giuliani in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, as per court records, revealing staggering financial details.
Giuliani stated liabilities ranging from $100 million to $500 million, in contrast to assets valued between $1 million and $10 million. The bulk of the debt, $148 million, was owed to Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss, the aforementioned election workers.
Additionally, the filing included Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, as a creditor, without specifying the owed amount. This inclusion pertained to a lawsuit from September where Hunter Biden accused Giuliani of breaching his privacy by allegedly using data from his laptop.
Among Giuliani's listed creditors were the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Photo by Gage Skidmore from Peoria, AZ, United States of America, Wikimedia commons.
