A federal appeals court has temporarily suspended the limited gag order imposed on former President Donald Trump in his 2020 election interference case.
The US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit issued this ruling on Friday, halting the restricted gag order to provide judges with more time to evaluate Mr. Trump's request for an extended suspension of speech limitations during his appeals.
The court explicitly stated that this suspension "should not be interpreted as a judgment on the merits" of Mr. Trump's request.
This development follows Eric Trump's recent completion of his testimony in Mr. Trump's $250 million civil fraud trial in New York. Judge Arthur Engoron had initially imposed a gag order on the former president, which was later expanded to include his attorneys after a contentious exchange over allegations of bias from the court clerk.
It's crucial to note that the fraud trial is a civil case, while the election interference case is one of four criminal indictments against Mr. Trump.
