A US judge in Florida has issued an order prohibiting defense lawyers representing former President Donald Trump from disclosing evidence in the classified documents case to the media or the
public. The order, issued by US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, also imposes strict conditions on Trump's access to the materials.
According to the court filing, the order states that the discovery materials and any derived information should not be made public or disseminated on news or social media platforms without prior notice or consent from the United States or approval from the court.
Furthermore, the order specifies that Trump is not allowed to retain copies of the documents and can only review the case materials under the direct supervision of his defense counsel or a member of the counsel's staff.
The motion for the order was filed by prosecutors who sought to impose conditions on how the defense handles and utilizes the documents in question.
Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was indicted earlier this month on federal charges. The charges include allegations of illegally retaining classified government documents after leaving the White House and conspiring to obstruct a federal investigation related to those documents.
In addition to the ongoing documents probe, Trump is facing other legal challenges. He has been indicted by New York prosecutors in connection with an alleged hush-money payment to a porn star. Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, is also investigating Trump's alleged involvement in actions surrounding his loss in the 2020 presidential election, which culminated in the deadly attack on the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021.
