Former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign has witnessed a surge in financial support, amassing an impressive $7 million since the announcement of his federal indictment.
Despite facing legal challenges, Trump's message of political persecution continues to resonate with his unwavering supporters.
In a recent email to his supporters, Trump's campaign proudly declared, "President Trump Raises Over $6.6 Million and Counting Since Deranged Jack Smith Announced Political Prosecution," referring to the U.S. special counsel leading the investigation against him.
Of the total funds raised, over $4.5 million originated from digital fundraising efforts, while an additional $2.1 million was generated during a donor event held at Trump's Bedminster Club in New Jersey on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, confirmed to Reuters that fundraising has now exceeded $7 million since the indictment was unveiled last Thursday.
The indictment accuses Trump of unlawfully retaining classified government documents after his departure from the White House and conspiring to obstruct a federal probe into the matter. Trump, however, pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts during his arraignment on Tuesday.
Trump has been actively portraying the charges as a Democratic-led assault aimed at removing him from the 2024 race, ultimately intending to harm Republicans. This narrative appears to resonate strongly with his staunch supporters, as 81% of Republicans, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on Monday, believe that the charges are politically motivated.
It is worth noting that Trump also experienced a surge in fundraising following charges brought against him in New York relating to hush money payments to a porn star. In March, after news broke that Trump would face charges, his campaign raised $7 million within a span of three days, according to senior adviser Jason Miller.
Furthermore, a group aligned with Trump's bid for the Republican nomination is breaking records for early outside political spending in a U.S. presidential campaign. As he seeks to outpace his closest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump's campaign is poised to make a significant impact, as highlighted in recent Reuters reporting.
