A member of the U.S. Air National Guard accused of leaking classified information and possessing weapons in his bedroom is scheduled to appear in federal court on
Thursday. The prosecution is expected to argue that he should remain in custody because he poses a threat to national security.
Jack Douglas Teixeira, 21, was arrested on April 13th in Massachusetts and charged with violating the Espionage Act. According to prosecutors, he leaked classified documents, including information about troop movements in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, to a group of gamers on the messaging app Discord.
FBI agents found a gun locker containing handguns, rifles, and a military-style rifle with a high-capacity magazine, as well as a gas mask, ammunition, and a "silencer-style accessory" in his desk drawer. The prosecution stated that Teixeira poses a danger to national security and the community, as he has a history of making racial threats and remarks about guns. In November 2022, Teixeira allegedly said that he would “kill a expletive ton of people” because it would be “culling the weak minded.” Photo by U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
