Southern California experienced a series of seismic events overnight, with nearly 20 earthquakes rattling the region in a short span, as reported by the United States
Geological Survey (USGS).
The first quake, measuring 4.8 magnitude, struck at 12:36 a.m. PST Sunday near El Centro, California, northwest of the city. Subsequent tremors followed in the areas surrounding El Centro and Imperial, both situated east of San Diego and close to the Mexico border. The National Weather Service office in San Diego confirmed the earthquakes, noting 13 tremors by 12:53 a.m., with some felt at the office itself.
