Katy Perry's company, Kitty Purry, has lost a trademark battle against Australian fashion designer Katie Taylor, who sells clothes under her birth name Katie Perry.
The judge agreed that clothing sold for Katy Perry's 2014 Australian tour breached Katie Perry's trademark, which she registered in Australia in 2008.
While the judge acknowledged that Katy Perry used the name in good faith, the star's company has been ordered to pay damages. The amount will be determined next month. The judge also dismissed Katy Perry's attempt to cancel the Katie Perry trademark. The designer called the decision a victory for small businesses in a "David and Goliath" case.
