Fort Knox, home to the U.S. Bullion Depository, has long been known for its fortress-like security and its role as a symbol of American financial strength. In addition to safeguarding a significant
portion of the nation's gold reserves, the facility serves as the U.S. Army’s Human Resources Command Center and hosts the largest annual training exercise for American troops.
Recently, concerns have emerged about the safety and integrity of the gold stored at Fort Knox. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced doubts about whether the repository is adequately secured and if all the gold is still accounted for. To address these concerns, Trump has announced plans to visit the site personally and inspect the reserves.
Elon Musk Fuels Speculation Over Fort Knox Gold Reserves
Adding to the controversy, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also questioned the security of the gold reserves at Fort Knox. Taking to his social media platform, X, Musk raised doubts about whether the estimated $425 billion worth of gold remains untouched.
“Who’s verifying that the gold hasn’t been stolen from Fort Knox?” Musk wrote. “Maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not. That gold belongs to the American public! We deserve to know if it’s still there.”
Musk later suggested a live video walkthrough of the facility, further fueling speculation. He even shared a meme from South Park captioned, “And it’s gone,” hinting at possible missing gold.
Trump Wants Answers: ‘Did Anyone Steal the Gold?’
Addressing the growing concerns, Trump confirmed his intentions to visit Fort Knox and verify the reserves firsthand.
“I want to find out,” Trump said. “We’re going to open up the doors and check. Did anyone steal the gold at Fort Knox? We need to make sure we actually have 400 tons of gold—or whatever the hell it is. I don’t want to open it and find out the cupboards are bare. It could happen.”
Despite these concerns, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reassured the public that routine audits have confirmed the security of the gold reserves. However, with both Trump and Musk raising questions, the calls for greater transparency regarding Fort Knox’s gold holdings are growing louder.
