The Pentagon has identified an additional $2 billion in accounting errors related to the ammunition, missiles, and other equipment sent to Ukraine, according to a U.S. government report

released on July 25. The Government Accountability Office report highlighted that the U.S. Department of Defense has struggled with valuing defense articles due to ambiguous accounting definitions. In 2023, the Pentagon acknowledged using "replacement value" instead of "depreciated value" to calculate the cost of matériel sent to Ukraine.

This adjustment initially revealed a $6.2 billion discrepancy, and now an additional $2 billion in overstatements have been discovered. Consequently, the Pentagon can send another $2 billion worth of arms to Ukraine, aligning with the aid approved by the Biden administration.
