Tesla has entered into a lease agreement with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Group to establish its largest sales and service center in China, according to an announcement from the
state-owned company.
This Tesla facility, boasting a colossal 8,000 square meters (approximately 861,000 square feet) in size, is set to open its doors in mid-2024 within Xin Park, a developing area situated in Shanghai's Pudong district. The Chinese company's official Wechat account made this announcement on Saturday.
At the time of reporting, Tesla had not provided an official response to requests for comment.
As the world's leading electric car manufacturer, Tesla already operates nearly 300 stores across China. A Reuters report from last year suggested the company was contemplating the closure of some showrooms located in upscale malls in cities such as Beijing.
In line with its commitment to enhancing customer service, Tesla intends to focus more on establishing stores in more cost-effective suburban locations, where it can also offer repair services. This strategy aligns with Chief Executive Elon Musk's goal of delivering an improved service experience for Tesla customers, as reported by Reuters.
