The U.S. has announced new sanctions targeting a China-based chemical company and its representatives for their role in fueling America’s opioid crisis.

On September 3, 2025, the State Department confirmed that Guangzhou Tengyue Chemical Co., Ltd., along with two of its leaders, Huang Xiaojun and Huang Zhanpeng, have been sanctioned. The company is accused of producing and shipping illicit synthetic opioids and chemical agents into the United States.

Synthetic opioids—especially fentanyl—remain the number one cause of overdose deaths among Americans aged 18 to 45. U.S. officials say China isn’t just looking the other way; in many cases, Chinese suppliers are actively supporting the trade that continues to devastate American families.

A statement from the Treasury Department said this move underscores the administration’s commitment to using every available tool—law enforcement, diplomacy, and financial measures—to fight the spread of synthetic drugs. The sanctions aim to hold Guangzhou Tengyue and its representatives accountable, while also sending a message to other companies that profit from the opioid crisis.
