Alaska Airlines says it’s getting back on track after a major technology outage on Thursday evening forced the carrier to ground all its flights nationwide.

The disruption, which also affected its regional subsidiary Horizon Air, lasted for nearly three hours, according to an advisory from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“We’re still experiencing an IT outage affecting our operations, which has led to some flight cancellations this evening and into tomorrow,” the airline shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier in the night, Alaska confirmed that it had put a temporary ground stop in place while working to fix the issue. The company said its teams were actively working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

This isn’t the first time Alaska Airlines has faced such problems — the carrier also grounded flights for about three hours back in July due to another IT system failure.

Throughout the outage, the airline responded to frustrated passengers on social media, acknowledging the system errors and assuring customers that its IT team was “working to get this resolved as soon as possible.” Photo by Adam Moreira (AEMoreira042281), Wikimedia commons.
